Cycle4Awareness is an organization that was set up by the late Michael John Mirabella. Mike started the organization to raise money and awareness for autism. It was Mikes love for his cousin Joey, the bike that he just acquired and his thirst for adventure that started the ball rolling. Cycle4Awareness was born.
In 2012, Mike teamed up with Ryan Rickus and they decided that they would like to cy…cle from Philadelphia to Key West to raise money and awareness for Autism Speaks Foundation. On the 15th of August 2012, Ryan and Mike started there journey to Key West. Their goal was to cover 100 miles a day while spending their down time at a hotel, crash at a kind local’s, or under a tree, and that’s exactly what they did.
That following summer, 2013, Cycle4Awareness decided to change the organization they were helping, the route they would be cycling and would recruit a new teammate. Mike wanted to have a bigger impact, so he decided to help a smaller organization. Cycle4Awareness was fortunate enough to hook up with Athletes Helping Athletes Inc. Athletes Helping Athletes Inc is a wonderful organization that connected special needs athletes with student-athletes in the spirit of friendship for mutual benefit and inspiration. The new route was along way from Philadelphia, Cycle4Awareness decided to cycle the West Coast, from Vancouver to San Diego and managed to pick up a new member, Fergal Barry. On the 14th of August 2013; Ryan, Mike and Fergal started the journey down the West Coast. They had the same premise to cycle 100 miles a day and with the help of the website Warm Showers, they had places to stay.
Cycle4Awareness, founded by the late Michael John Mirabella, raises money and awareness for autism. Inspired by his cousin Joey and a new bike, Mike launched this exciting venture. This year, his sister Micale, a Beach Haven lifeguard, requested proceeds go towards a lifeguard boat in Michael’s memory. Join us for a fun ride.
